Week3 Robotic+Art

This week we learned about how Robotic and Art correlate. Professor Vesna expand on the history, as well as the impact of robotics, and how they influences art as a whole. She mentioned that the industrial revolution was an important change back in the history, as it transits to a newer manufacturing processes. There's no doubt that it was an exceptional advancement of technology. However, it wasn't the greatest thing that happened for employees who lost their job due to the robotic replacements. Instead, it develops the Luddites; a member of workers who destroyed machineries that they claimed to have taken their jobs away from them.

The idea of a negative response of an individual continuing the progression of technology can be seen in movies like the Matrix and the Terminator. They portray both robots and machinery as more advance and powerful then humans, which trigger the destruction of mankind.

By looking at technology in another perspective, technology has shown us that they are beneficial to the human's society. Wimmer talked about how recent advancement of robotics enable medical crews to perform a higher precision surgery, by using robots that performs a cochlear implantation. Another example of these kinds of efficient can be seen in the Pixar movie, Big Hero 6. The movie portrays robots as lovable and aims to take care of other people; Baymax. In the movie, Baymax diagnoses everyone and known to be one of the heroes.

In addition, Walter Benjamin review the enhancement of technology in the world of Art. He touched on its "aura", which was being taken away by the technical reproduction of an artwork. As time progresses, I agree that the development of technology can hugely influence art, but I believe that it is somehow a positive impact.

Week6 BioTech+Art

I would say that this week's topic is a very thought provoking concept among any other that we have covered so far. It is somehow controversial with the impression that biology and art emerge with each other to create an ethical beliefs disturbance, as well as advancing itself in both fields With the fusion of art and biology, animals are going through their gene altercations. A very surprising fact, I did not come to a realization of how and when does rats became a testing subject for human in the medical studies. It is what we called Transgenic rats or "Test" rats (the rats that are being inserted with foreign DNA into their genome). The altercation of natural species brings up the serious ethical question, and the sophistication generates the controversy in today's society. Also, it does not allow for natural selection because artists and scientists urge to be knowledgable about this subject that potentially lead to a world dilemma. Furthermore, Professor Ve...

Week 9 Space+Art

I would say that there are a lot of aspects of technology we have learned throughout the course pertains to "Space" topic. It seems like without the access we have to technology, we wouldn't be able to obtain informations about space today. In lecture, professor explained how Copernicus first introduced the heliocentric model in 1512, and it was scientifically the first time of having the idea of the sun being in the middle of the solar system. (Vesna) model of Copernicus' heliocentric There was a leap in technology during the space exploration in the 17th century due to the invention of telescope. It is very interesting that one of the previous topic in this class, nanotechnology, was used to examine Bucky balls and how they are seen as a big factor in the theory that planet Earth was once bombarded by meteorites early in the history. (Handwerk) Bucky balls in meteorites Later in 1957, the USSR launched the first satellite called Sputnik, and it began...

Week8 NanoTech+Art

After watching lectures and reading the materials this week, I came to a realization that Nanotechnology is very complex and is important to our world. With its contribution to the field of technology and science, it has been a huge impact to that extent. It all began with Richard Feynman, he quoted “The principles of physics as far as I can see, do not speak against the possibility of maneuvering things atom by atom”(Feynman). He also claimed that how could one possibly move an atom, or let alone even touch one, in Dr. Gimzewski’s lecture. (Gimzewski)   Richard Feynman As crucial as nanotechnology impacts science technology, it is an uprising in nano-robotics. Introducing the nanobots, or a reduced size robot. This became a massive advancement in both science and medicine technology. NOVA lecture explained that a tiny device like micro-robots, are capable for saving lives in the future.(NOVA) Technology will mainly depend on tiny gadgets that will possibly probe human bod...
